Today in music, Boston four-piece [lastfm]The Cars[/lastfm] disbanded after 12 years together. Although lead singer Ric Ocasek said in 1997 about the band re-uniting “I’m saying never and you can count on that”, the group announced in late 2010 that they had re-entered the studio together.

“Shake It Up” was a single The Cars released in 1981, and was the most popular in the groups’ career.

Bassist Benjamin Orr explained that the song has two meanings: one simple, and one existential. On the first level the lyrics are about just having fun – referencing dance moves and hair styles. But the song also tells the story of how important it is to make a mark in life.
