Before Phillip Phillips hit it big on American Idol, he was just an average 21 year old working at his families pawn shop. For sometime, Phillips’ father had been considering selling the shop. Well, Phillips’ won American Idol and with that, his father felt there’s no time better time than the present to make a life changing decision. Now that his son is officially a star, and a newly signed recording artist, he has no need to keep the old place.
International Business Times notes that Phillips’ father was thinking about selling the shop in Albany, GA for around $200,000, but now he thinks that the stores connection to American Idol may cause a bidding war. The store may be important to the family, but they probably have a larger concern: Phillip’s health. The Idol winner has been suffering from kidney problems all season long, and winning the show does not stop that. He called into Live! With Kelly to confirm that he is undergoing surgery.
Hopefully the surgery, along with selling the shop go smoothly so that Phillips’ can focus on his budding music career. The newly crowned champ is sure to make a big splash on radios everywhere as soon as he’s healthy enough to do so. Check out his final performance here:
