[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Taylor Swift[/lastfm] is, too many, America’s sweetheart. The soft-spoken, award-winning, signer-song writer is living the American dream. A young girl from Pennsylvania came a long way to make it in the Broadway lights, but not before having her heart-broken along the way. But, like many before her (Adele anyone?) Swift took these heart breaks and put them on wax. Well, one of her former heart breakers happened to be a pretty well known singer-song writer himself: [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]John Mayer.[/lastfm]

On Swift’s second studio album Speak Now, Swift has a song titled “Dear John.” Coincidence? Probably not. After it’s release the song garnered notoriety for many reasons, but the main reason was for it’s not so subtle attacks on Mayer. Armed with a pen and guitar pick, Swift croons “And you’ll add my name to your long list of traitors who don’t understand, And I’ll look back in regret how I ignored when they said
, ‘Run as fast as you can’ ” Harsh words, but who can blame her?

Mayer, 34, started casually dating Swift when she was 19. Obviously, the age, fame, and distance were too much for the two when they split. Mayer, a well-known heartbreaker, clearly wasn’t as effected as much as Swift by the split. Until now. Just recently Mayer opened up to Rolling Stone in their latest issue to express his feelings about the Swift track. “It made me feel terrible,” Mayer says. “I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”

Mayer’s newest album, Born and Raised, is on stands now and it shows a grown-up more mature version of Mayer. Maybe that’s the reason the words hurt him so much. Mayer says, “I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down.”

Well, maybe Mayer has learned his lesson not to toy with the emotions of one of the countries biggest stars. Or, maybe he’ll start dating Adele next, ya never know.
