Woman Uses TurboTax. Gets 2 Million Refund. No One Catches On.

TurboTax

Well, eventually they caught on. Only after Krystle Marie Reyes reported the government issued VISA card lost.

Prior to that, she went on a spending spree Brewster would be proud of.

Reyes used TurboTax to file a false return, claiming to earn over $3 million annually – and a return of $2.1 million. Due to the amount filed, several officials combed through the paperwork. All of them signed off on the return.

It was only after Reyes reported a second card stolen that a full investigation turned up the fraud.

You almost want her to get some sort of reward for being both brilliant and clueless at the same time.

If the government took the time to investigate a lot of tax preparers work, I guarantee they will find a lot of red flags.
