A very happy reunion took place this week, when Ike, a mature, mixed breed dog was located and returned to his guardian. Ike was in a car that was involved in an accident last Friday on Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. The car was totaled. Ike’s owner wasn’t seriously hurt, but in the ensuing commotion, with police, fire and rescue squads converging on the scene, Ike ran away.
He wasn’t wearing his collar.
Ike weighs about 150 pounds. He is skittish, but very friendly.
It turns out a Lakewood resident (and obviously a dog lover) found Ike unattended and secured him, contacting Lakewood animal rescue. They were able to bring Ike home.
Ike is a special dog. He protected his previous master through her Alzheimer’s disease, keeping constant vigil.
Thanks to everyone who looked for Ike, or who shared prayers and positive thoughts. It worked!
