Channel 3′s Chris Tye is in London for the extent of the Olympics and we were able to get a hold of him! He was able to tell us about his busy day and tell us what the Olympics have been like for him so far and tell us what is going on just over the pond!
Chris started the interview talking about the crazy hours that he has to work in London and that he barely has time to watch the games! He is up at 7 a.m. London time (2 a.m. Cleveland time) to get prepared for the live shots for the morning show here in Cleveland at 5 a.m (10 a.m. London time). He then goes out and talks to the local people in London and tries to find Clevelanders there and has been trying to talk to kids from Beijing, asking them if they worked in the last Olympic games. By the time they are done with all of their filming, writing and editing its around midnight London time and he has yet to see any of the games at all!
Chris does enjoy getting to see all of the athletes and all of the major news outlets that are in London though. He is especially excited to see the Today Show crew. Although he likes some of the athletes better than others, he has to be objective as a journalist there, otherwise he could have his credentials taken away from him. That means he is not allowed to ask for autographs or film anything that the Olympic committees don’t say is okay first.
Chris also talked about how people watch the Olympics has been changing. It used to be that people would be waiting around to see the events, but now peopel want to see it happening right when it occurs and not have it pre-recorded. Although they do show the Olympic games during prime-time, those events are usually pre-recorded and many people know what has happened in those events by the 6 o’clock news. They do offer a live stream online of all of the events so that people can get the Olympics when they want them and know what is happening when it happens and a lot of Americans are going that route
Chris also touched on what he was been seeing around the country and he has noticed that London is more of a fit place. The people walk from place to place more often and use public transportation much more than here in the United States. Chris also said that the amount of volunteers is crazy and that there are more volunteers for the Olympics than there are people who live in Akron! That’s just amazing!
To hear EVERYTHING that Chris talked about including the amount of cameras he has seen while there and the amount of press coverage that people have been giving these games check out the full Chris Tye Interview and tell us what you think about the Olympic games so far in the comments below!
