Angelo Merendino’s wife Jennifer died of breast cancer last December at age 40.  He documented Jen’s journey through the lens of a camera, and is displaying those pictures in an exhibit called The Battle We Didn’t Choose: My Wife’s Fight with Breast Cancer at the Convivium 33 Gallery on East 33rd Street in Cleveland.

The photos were originally displayed at The Gathering Place facility in Westlake, but a decision was made to remove the display after just a few days.  The Gathering Place Executive Director Eileen Saffran said some clients and volunteers were disturbed by the images.

Angelo tells me he understands why some would be disturbed the the images; they document his wife’s struggle with an ugly disease.  He thinks the situation could have been handled differently, however.

Angelo has set up a Facebook page, where he says he gets invaluable support.
