There is a great photo making its way around the Twittersphere that shows the proportions of the iconic Barbie doll, in black ink on the body of real life model Katie Halchishick. The model is the co-founder of Healthy Is The New Skinny, a campaign aimed at displaying REAL models, not anorexic, airbrushed, unnatural looking plastic women. Their website is a wealth of information, and merch.
You’ll notice that Barbie would have an unnaturally small neck, alien sized eyes, a waist that leaves little room for vital organs and abnormally large and perky breasts. Barbie has always looked fake, Are we really sending the best message to our daughters? Don’t even get me started on the Ken doll! I have low enough self esteem without having to compete with plastic abs! Check out the twit pic below and leave your comments at the bottom. If you’re looking for me, I’ll be at the gym…until March.
