From Cleveland Connection

Dr. Daryl Thornton of Metrohealth Systems specializes in pulmonary medicine and critical care, and is involved with the hospital’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities.

He says there are currently 113,000 Americans waiting for an organ donation, and that more than half of those on the waiting list are minorities; mostly African Americans.

He’s crusading for an increase in organ donors, in a very innovative way; by using iPads.

Dr. Thornton and a team of volunteers used iPads to show a short video on organ donation to people waiting to renew their driver’s licenses.

He targeted the Bureau of Motor Vehicles because when you renew your driver’s license,  you are asked whether you want to be an organ donor.

He tells Jim what the project found.
