What would you do if your lost your pet during a disaster or worse – you couldn’t get home to get your pets when a disaster strikes? How would you even start to go about finding him or her? The good news is that you can be prepared for this. There are also rescue groups dedicated solely to reuniting pets with their families in emergency situations.

But what can you do now? The Humane Society of the United States recommends making a disaster relief plan for your pets. Being prepared can make all the difference in the world.

1. Be sure your pets always wear identification.

2. Put together a disaster kit with everything you’ll need in an emergency such as your pets food, water medications, etc.

3. Find a safe place to stay ahead of time.

4. If you evacuate take your pets with you!

5. If you stay at home, do so safely.

6. Continue special care for your pets after the disaster.

Should you become separated from your pets during a disaster there are many rescue groups dedicated to reuniting pets with their owners.

You can request help from PetSmart Charities, and follow these FEMA guidelines to help you locate your pets should they get lost. Often times, a Facebook page is created for lost pets in the case of a disaster to help find the pets owners.

Many animals were displaced after the devastating tornado that tore through Oklahoma, but as in many of these desperate situations, community members, rescuers and companies come together to help displaced pets.

Huff Post Green wrote a great article on how you can help (both human and furry) victims of the Oklahoma Tornado Disaster, and donate directly to organizations helping with the relief efforts.

From 1995 to 2004, Cleveland native Drew Carey had his own show on ABC called The Drew Carey Show. Set in Cleveland, Ohio – the show focused on Drew and his friends Lewis, Oswald and Kate.

The group hangs out in a bar that looks like any you might see around Cleveland called The Warsaw Tavern and his house looks similar to the duplex’s you might see in Lakewood.

Drew’s workplace is the office of fictional Cleveland department store Winfred-Lauder, where he has worked for years and still works as Assistant Director of Personnel.

Today we remember the Drew Carey show on Drew’s birthday, by watching some of the different Cleveland-centric theme songs the show used.

New Music To Know: Laura Mvula’s Unexpected World Of ‘Orchestral Soul’

About thirty seconds into her debut single, “She,” Laura Mvula introduces a choir. And the vocal arrangement is like the sun coming out. It’s reminiscent of what the Beach Boys did, but filtered by way of a black gospel choir of the best singers you could imagine. Behind Mvula and her choir, a chiming keyboard melody floats while drumbeats push things along. It is at once primal and delicate.

This is a glimpse into the unexpected world of U.K. singer-songwriter Laura Mvula. Unexpected because the tools she’s working with to create musical soundscapes are not in fashion right now. In an interview with Radio.com, she described her music as “orchestral soul” and explained her music making process.

Her debut album, Sing To The Moon, just saw its U.S. release on May 14, following a March release across the pond. Mvula says she drew inspiration for the album from a number of places: her training in classical music and composition, gospel music and the religious Caribbean community in the U.K., as well as reggae, blues and soul. She used the piano to improvise her compositions, noting, “I didn’t know any rules.”

Mvula is currently touring the U.S., with more dates in Europe to follow.

Avril Lavigne Goes To Marilyn Manson For Music And Style Advice

Everyone knows Avril Lavigne worked with Nickelback frontman (and now fiancé) Chad Kroeger on her upcoming album. But she also received a little help from Marilyn Manson.

Lavigne told MTV that Manson helped bring her out her naughty side on the song “Bad Girl, ” which will be on her untitled album, due out this September. At the last minute while recording the track Lavigne texted Manson, who she’s known since she was 18 years old, and just asked if he’d be willing to come by.

“He’s like, ‘I’ll come over and I’ll hear it,’” she explained. “So he came at 4 o’clock in the morning… Yes, it was one of those nights.”

It’s important to remember that Memorial Day isn’t just an excuse for a long weekend off of work and a time to enjoy picnics and barbeque with friends and family – the national holiday remembers those who have lost their life while defending our country.

The holiday, first called Decoration Day, was a tradition started after the American Civic War to honor both Union and Confederate soldiers who lost their lives.

This year we celebrate all of our service men and women who have given up their lives in honor to protect all of us – and here in Cleveland there is a very special service you can attend to honor them.

The historic Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland will be holding a Memorial Day Service at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 27th. A parade will start the ceremony at the James A. Garfield Monument with honored Vietnam veteran Patrick McLaughlin speaking to the group.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets, and food and drink of your own are permitted inside the grounds.

A 1pm service will then be held at the Community Mausoleum where service men and women who have lost their lives will be recognized.

If you’re looking for an alternative to the hot BBQ and rock music that will be filling both rib festivals during Memorial Day weekend, try an ethnic alternative at the Tremont Greek Festival.

Now in its 43rd year, the fest is held behind the historic Annunciation Church – a Greek church that has been serving greater Cleveland since 1913.

Live music and dance troupes celebrate local Greek heritage all weekend long while traditional Greek food and drinks will be served. A full entertainment list is here.

The Marc’s Great American Rib Cook-Off and Music Festival returns to Jacob’s Pavilion at Nautica. Running Friday, May 24 – Monday May 27th, the festival has big musical guests hitting the stage each night of the weekend with activities and of course more ribs than anyone could ever imagine for your sink your chompers into.

Berea’s National Rib Cook-Off

On the west side of town, Berea’s National Rib Cook-Off returns to the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds on Friday, May 24 – Monday, May 27th.

Along with aisles upon aisles of hot smokin’ ribs, the festival features music all weekend long on the Southwest General Stage. See a full list of acts here.
